Tutorials/What to do if you are bored

From Minecraft Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

While Minecraft is a very fun and vast game, there will be a time when you have seemingly done and built everything there is to see. Fear not! Here is a list of things to do and build. Check them off, as no doubt will you have done some already:

Contents

[edit] Play Hardcore difficulty

There is a pretty good chance you will have tried Survival Mode, but at what difficulty? Switched down to Peaceful when you were losing that fight against a creeper? Died and spawned in that bed? Hardcore is the new Core of the Cave. Locked on Hard. One wrong action and you will have to begin all over again.

[edit] Join a server

Some servers require registration online, but others you can just start straight away. You can make new friends and show off your talents to the world. Or just go around and explore people's wonderful creations. The choice is yours. Just don't grief!

[edit] Make a server

Are those multiplayer server admins muting you or even banning you for making one mistake? Well then don't worry about them, make your own server! Once you see them trees spawn you will be the proud owner of your server!

[edit] Finish the game

Your end might be when you have 64 diamonds, but there is an end to Minecraft. Simply get the Eye of Ender and find that Stronghold. Fix, then jump into the portal and see if you can kill that Ender Dragon. A fun and satisfying bit of combat.

[edit] Edit Minecraft Wiki

You will have gathered a wealth of Minecraft knowledge playing the game so you can now share this with the world. There are lots of articles so if you think you know a tad more about pigs, then get typing!

[edit] Try another experience

On this very wiki there is a list of alternative experiences. There are some great ones from not being able to use doors or not killing any mobs. Pick some and complete them, or for a real challenge clear the whole list. Or make up your own.

[edit] Make a cool shelter

Go to Tutorials/List of things to do to your shelter and make sure your shelter has every one of these. This will take a fair old while, so try your best!

[edit] Make a rollercoaster

This is a good thing to do. Using Creative mode (or Survival) get rails and a minecart and include sheer drops, sharp turns and amazing scenery. Do it in the Nether for another fun experience.

[edit] Experiment with Redstone

If you haven't already, redstone circuitry could open an entire new aspect of Minecraft both complex and deeply creative. Build automated mob traps, intricate devices that do everything you could possibly imagine from playing a song to telling you the time. You can also make redstone charges repeat themselves.

[edit] Make some videos

There are lots of video websites where you can upload a video and people can comment. Upload gameplay or commentary of you playing Minecraft! Download software (such as FRAPS) that lets you record your screen and make some tours of your world. Upload them to any website (such as YouTube) you like and become an Internet superstar. If you don't have good screen capture software borrow a camera off a friend.

[edit] Build Statues

It can be fun to build statues of mobs, tools, or even yourself! They look cool on servers, too (if on server, don't make your statue flammable!).

[edit] Blow things up

This can be done in creative. It`s always fun blowing everything up! Sometimes someone goes nuts and place 1,000 TNT or more. If you have a lot on in survival, it might be a fun way to find diamonds!

[edit] Pixel Art

Similar to statues, pixel art uses dyed wool or other materials to create massive 2D sculptures! Find a low-resolution picture, then assign materials to each pixel. Finally, build away! (if you don't know what to make, try one of the paintings. They're pixally so just make bigger ones)

[edit] Load a texture pack

Okay, so changing the colors will not give you something to build, but it gives Minecraft a fresh look, giving you the first excitement when you loaded that first world. There are so, so many to choose from, so pick one and try it!

[edit] Create a Texture Pack

Want even more customization than the Painterly Pack? OCD about every detail? Just plain artsy? Create your own texture pack! Use the default or your favorite existing texture pack as a base, or start from scratch. And it helps other texture pack creators, because you stop spamming their forum thread with complaints about that one pixel that you think should be more saturated in the dirt.

[edit] Recreate things

Why not bring the real world to Minecraft? Choose something that is in this world (i.e. your home, the White House, McDonalds) and do your best to recreate it in Minecraft. Even better, send it to your friends and see if they can guess what it is. Good luck!

[edit] Play Spleef

Spleef is a fun game played on some Minecraft servers. It is played in an arena featuring a large pit, often filled with lava. Above the lava is the "field", a layer of blocks (usually snow due to its break speed and not being able to replace it). Players receive shovels and use them to destroy the blocks below their opponents to make them fall into the pit or holding area below.

[edit] Play with TNT

Nothing more satisfying than blowing up a structure you worked so hard to create. Dig down to the void and block jump with TNT up again, then repeat. Light and try again. Or blow up an NPC village and annoy the villagers. NOTE: Definitely not on other people's servers. That would be griefing.

[edit] Defeat Mobs

Fence off an area, spawn 100 Creepers and defeat them all without exploding. This will take some time to perfect. It helps if you're on SMP, then someone on creative can use spawn eggs to release mobs to you in sequence.

[edit] Try a Custom Map

Custom maps can be very fun to play, most have a creative storyline, challenging fights, and lovely buildings. Maps can range from 25 minutes long all the way to more than 100 hours! For the adventurous, there are custom Adventure Maps that involve the hero (you) to hack and slash his way through countless mobs, and for the people who want an intellectual challenge, there are plenty of Puzzle Maps. There is something for everybody when you play a custom map.

[edit] Dig a Quarry

Quarries are big projects, but the payoff is huge. All you have to do is dig a big square down to bedrock, and store the items in chests. Quarries are a great boost in Hardcore Mode.

[edit] Find a Stronghold

Make a bunch of Eyes of Ender. Throw it, and follow the direction until they start going straight into the ground.

[edit] Invade a Village

If you live fairly close to an NPC village, why not invade? Burn houses, cage the villagers and occupy the whole village! If you're playing SSP, watch out for the the villagers' "little friend".

[edit] Build an Army

If you're on SMP, and there are a lot of people, why not have a war? Build your army, equip your soldiers with food, weapons, and armor, then go on a rampage destroying the enemies' villages and lives.

[edit] Reel mobs to death

Best done on superflat creative. Fence off an area, use spawn eggs to spawn any mob(expect flying mobs or mobs which don't take fall damage), equip a fishing rod,go at a ridiculous height then start fishing the mobs. As soon as a mob is hit, release it and it will be sent flying(quite ironic with spiders/cave spiders)! You may also organize a competition with friends and see who's the most accurate!

[edit] Play older versions

Many older versions can be playable with mods like McNostalgia, which allows you to patch your .jar to an older version of the game. So, if you feel like Minecraft was fun back in the days, you should use a mod that brings you back to the old versions of the game. Or, you can do it if you are a new player and you are curious of what would be like to play Alpha, Beta, whatever version.

[edit] Netherify Villages

Super easy on superflat creative. Time consuming but very fun, you can make the villages like they came out of the Nether! For Netherfication you need: nether bricks, nether brick stairs and fences, glowstone, netherack, soul sand, buckets of lava and nether wart.

1st: Make the farms: Replace farmland with soul sand, water with lava, wheat with nether wart and the wood with nether bricks. Sure the wart will never grow, but it makes nice decoration!

2nd: Make the small nether buildings: wooden planks replaced with nether bricks, stairs with nether stairs, glass with nether fences, raw wood and cobblestone with soul sand, and the inside floor with with netherack. No doors.

3rd: Prepare the brick church: Same principal, except the cobblestone is nether bricks.

4th: Street lights: Destroy them and rebuild with the nether fence and glowstone.

5th: Lava well: Same as above. Cobble is soul sand, the water becomes lava.

6th: The L buildings: Same, except the roof is made of nether bricks.

7th: The forge(es): Same again, but fill the chest with nether blocks.

8th: Make a huge cube over the village,as if it was on a cavern.

Ta-da! Enjoy your newly netherfied village.

[edit] Make a variation

Try messing with the rules a little! Here are some examples:

Level-based system
Nomad: Level 0: You can't use tools and you can't craft.
Rogue: Level 1-4: You can only use wooden tools and golden tools and you can only craft with wood, wooden planks, cobblestone, dirt and coal. You also can't use armor.
Beginner: Level 5-8: You can only use wooden, stone and golden tools and you can only craft with wood, wooden planks, cobblestone, dirt, coal, iron, leather, stone, various plants and gold. You also can't use armor.
Midrank: Level 9: You can do everything beginners can do and you can craft with redstone. You can use armor.
Knight: Level 10-14: You can do everything midworkers can do and you can use iron tools.
Skilled: Level 15-19: You can do everything knights can do and you can craft with diamonds and use diamond tools.
Master: Level 20+: You can do everything skilled can do and you can craft with everything.

Nomad mode

1. You aren't allowed to build shelters. Here are the specifics of what counts as a shelter:

*At least three walls and a ceiling

2. You aren't allowed to farm.
3. You aren't allowed to cook, but you are allowed to smelt.
4. You aren't allowed to make a bed.

For similar variation, see Tutorials/Nomadic Experience.

[edit] Download a Mod

There are tons of mods out there like Industral Craft, Buildcraft, and Red Power. Download off the forums and have a lot of fun! Destory ores quickly with Industrial Craft's Mining laser. Mine easily with Buildcraft's Quarry. Program Computers with Red Power. See Tutorials/Installing Mods and Mods for more information
