I'm sorry, very new to wiki and such.
Snow seems to 'fall' through glass that is set out, any other blocks known?

Notch has fixed that in a recent update. --Vibhor

[edit] Snowing

So does it snows when the map is being generated or anytime after map is generated? --Vibhor

It's decided from the start whether it's a snowy map or not.
Thats not always true. The weather of worlds change, including to snow. It is very rare that I have ever come across this in my game, but on one of my maps, it started to snow. It is generally decided at the beginning of a generated map. -- Bonney12

So it may well snow on my seed even though it didn't start with snow on the ground??--Lewkuss

[edit] Base lighting

It seems glass with snow on it is the only way to get sunlight into an underground base while being invisible from the surface.
Sweet eh? ~Canebrake

Would Ice with snow on top also work? Can you have snow on top of ice? --BronzDragon
Unless you're talking about a snow block, then of course you can't. You've seen plenty of ice lakes and ice seas, you wouldn't be able to see them if snow was able to fall on them. Think! –ultradude25 (T|C) 22:07, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

[edit] After the Halloween update

Since there is snowy biomes but no snowfall, it looks like the snow doesn't "regrow" when harvested. Can anyone confirm this ?

I've also noticed this, confirmed! Eslachance 06:17, 31 October 2010 (CDT)
Notch forgot to implement it, apparently. [1] --Scykei 13:26, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Ice/snow

I've found a block that is solid like ice but gives snowballs. can anyone tell me what it is?

[edit] Floating snow

I have noticed that when "underground" lakes form on the surface of a snowy biome, snow is often found floating in midair above the lake. This snow can be passed through and seems to behave normally except that there is no supporting block. Will someone else please confirm this.Zephyriphoenix 16:39, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Snow can land on...

Snow that landed on coal at map generation.
I've noticed that snow can land on any blocks with nothing above them, even coal! This is not mentioned in the article, can it be added somehow?

[edit] Snow is a block?

Obviously, it's listed as a block. What I mean is, does it take up a "use" of a tool when destroyed?Wandergirl108 03:04, 2 June 2011 (UTC) -Yes. Of course it does. Haven't you ever used shovels to collect snowballs? --ZEMEDELPHOS 00:53, 9 June 2011 (UTC) I've tried that since I posted this...I probably should have tested it FIRST. My bad. Yes, you're right.Wandergirl108 17:37, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

Right, sorry for sounding so snippy. I just figured it's a bit obvious. --ZEMEDELPHOS 12:55, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Getting rid of snow fast?

Hey in my world a blizzard hit my map soon after the weather update and now my map is just covered with ugly looking snow -.- Is there anyway to just quickly clean my world of snow? Any sort of mod or hack? Any feedback would be much appreciated. --Ofgs2 03:50, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

I know no mods for the purpose, but you could use MCedit to change every snow block to air blocks, there is a replace command. Or just pour buckets of water on it, and it will be destroyed. Neither of these are permanent, however. --| TheKax | Talk 13:25, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Melting Snow

Snow melting is related to light levels from non-sun sources. Instead, in trivia it is only mentioned as blocks away from said light sources, which is only a summary. Could someone please enter the light levels that snow melts/freezes at? --HexZyle 06:41, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Well it's pretty obvious from the "blocks away" comment. Two blocks away from a torch is level 12 light. If you don't already know that then knowing the light level isn't very likely to be helpful anyway. 24.21.126.189 20:06, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Blocks snow doesn't fall on...

Currently, snow doesn't fall on glass, ice, or leaves! (in fancy graphics) The snow that is found on trees is snow left from world gen. Newly planted trees, even when they've come through three snowstorms don't have but a pile of snow on them! This should be added. --Danny Ufonek 13:06, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Try any transparent block - I suspect snow won't fall on any of them. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:46, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
In pre-version 1.9, snow does build up on glass and ice. It also falls (and floats) atop flowing water (which is a part-transparent block I believe). Off-topic, but having snowfall back after so long is a wondrous thing.

[edit] Extinguishing torches

In 1.9 pre 2, active snowfall appears to actually extinguish any torches placed directly on the ground. Torches attached to the sides of blocks will be unharmed, but any torches placed along the ground (to mark a path, for instance) will disappear during the storm. Came here expecting to read more about it but was surprised to see no information. Can someone confirm and then add to the article? -Lutesolo 00:56, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

About a week ago, Jeb mentioned it was a bug. I would find it but I'm lazy. :) Cool12309(Talk|Contributions|Sandbox) 01:03, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Mobs spawning on snow

I've noticed that in areas with snow covered ground that mobs seem to spawn much less often, and they usually do so in places with no snow (like under trees). Is it just a coincidence, or does the snow prevent spawning because it's not a solid block? Lunakki 20:06, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

According to this page only individual mobs can spawn in transparent blocks like snow, not mob packs. This might be the reason. --☺ Sven ? ! 14:44, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

[edit] The tool for snow should show as a wooden shovel, not a transparent shovel.

A transparent shovel means that snow can be successfully mined dropping an item without a shovel, but snow only drops a snowball when you use a shovel. Anoymous712 09:24, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
