[edit] Speculation on future use

I removed the speculatory bits of the article but they were readded, so I'm curious - is being able to write in books something Notch has mentioned or just pure user speculation? If it's the former does anyone have a source? Otherwise should it be removed? Izzalion 02:42, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

There is actually a mod for 1.3_01 that allows you to write in books. I suggest you add it in the article. I would myself but I have no idea how to edit these things. I don't even know if I'm doing this right. Chris The Mushroom 7:18, 21 February 2011 (PST)

Found what was mentioned, at Notch's blog (http://notch.tumblr.com/post/4988431144/the-maps) It currently says:
"At the moment the map doesn’t work at all in multiplayer, but that’s my next task. The code I write to support that will also be possible to reuse in the future for things like books and notes written by players, and possibly even custom paintings/hand drawn signs." --Cith 16:43, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

It does seem likely. We have a set of four items (Sugarcane > Paper > Book > Bookshelf) which are barely used for anything :( --HexZyle 05:06, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Difficulty

Books seem to be much more difficult to make as they require leather, and cows do not provide much per cow. more leather per cow or making only editable books require leather would fix the problem.
