A stonecutter is a crafting block which, when opened, allows for the crafting of stone and stone-related items, such as block of quartz, sandstone, stone bricks, stairs, slabs, and bricks. The stonecutter was created to remove blocks from the crafting table menu and the inventory crafting menu. As a result, the crafting table (in Pocket Edition) is not able to make the blocks the stonecutter does. Anything made out of cobblestone (with the exception of the furnace, tools and the stonecutter itself) is made using the stonecutter.
[edit] Crafting
The stonecutter is crafted with four cobblestone (presumably by arranging it in a 2x2 pattern if the MATTIS crafting system was not used, as it can be made in your personal crafting area without a crafting table). However, a crafting table is still needed to obtain it as it is necessary to craft a pickaxe to mine stone. (Unless you use strategic creeper explosion, although this is very impractical, as it might altogether destroy the stone block, rather than harvest it.)

[edit] Trivia
- The texture for the stonecutter appears to use the furnace texture as a base, with a few additions. It has a saw blade on it too.
