Server list

Minecraft includes an in-game server list for Multiplayer in which users can save the servers they visit. The full release of Minecraft does not have a pre-populated server list directly available from the game itself or on the official Minecraft website, but the stand-alone Minecraft launcher does support adding servers in the Multiplayer section. It allows you to see if a server is online, how many slots it has, and how good your connection (ping) to the server is. Hovering over the connection status icon in Minecraft's server list will tell you the connection speed to the server. The current appearance of the server list as of Beta 1.8 can be seen in the image below.

Since Minecraft does not have a populated server list available, many third-party websites dedicated to listing Minecraft servers exist.

Mojang currently only provides a server list for the Classic version of Minecraft, and it can be found here: http://www.minecraft.net/classic/list.

Before the Beta 1.8 Adventure Update, the Multiplayer section did not support saving multiple servers and only displayed the last server visited. It was just a simple input prompt box for the server IP address/site.

The ability to save and view multiple servers was added in 1.8.
