[edit] Cooking

Raw Porkchops can be cooked in a furnace to yield Cooked Porkchops. Alternatively, the player can set pigs on fire to collect ready-cooked porkchops.

[edit] Advantages

  • Raw Porkchops are relatively quick to get at all stages of the game without requiring specialized tools, and even faster to collect when the player has a stone sword (or better) and a sizeable herd of pigs nearby.
  • Unlike Raw Chicken, Raw Porkchops do not carry a risk of food poisoning when eaten.
  • Cooking a Raw Porkchop yields a Cooked Porkchop, a food item that restores 4 units of the Food Bar and 12.8 saturation when eaten.

[edit] Disadvantages

  • The availability of Raw Porkchops are dependent on the presence of pigs within sight, which can be random at best and require extensive traveling in some cases, depending on the biome the player spawns in. Once one finds multiple pigs in close proximity, a pig farm can be started.

[edit] History

Raw porkchops restored Heart.svgHalf Heart.svg and did not stack in the inventory until Beta 1.8,[1] when they could be stacked to 64 and restored 1.5 units to the Food Bar instead. Until the addition of chicken, beef, and rotten flesh in Beta 1.8, raw and cooked porkchops were one of the most used sources of food, and the only meat available in the game, excluding fish.

[edit] Trivia

  • Killing a Pig by burning it with Flint and Steel will drop a cooked porkchop instead of a Raw Porkchop.
  • It is impossible to obtain a Raw Porkchop in The Nether because there are no pigs. However, in Beta 1.8 and before, killing a Zombie Pigman would drop a cooked porkchop, this has since been changed.
