Annual Minecraft events (usually called Minecraft Live, and formerly MINECON) are events hosted by Mojang Studios.

MinecraftCon 2010 was a spontaneous gathering of Minecraft fans in Bellevue, Washington, USA on August 31.

It was conceived by Notch in a blog post.[1] It was unofficial, and was held by his family and some fans.

MINECON 2010 was a gathering of Minecraft fans on a Minecraft Classic server.[2]

This thread on the Minecraft Forums was an unofficial organization point for the Con.

2011[]

MINECON 2011 was held at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on November 18th, coinciding with the official release of the game.[3] Tickets went on sale on August 11, 2011.

MINECON featured many exciting events, including the official release of Minecraft, keynote speeches from members of the Minecraft community (including one from Notch), building contests, breakout classes with different Minecraft topics, costume contests, exhibits, meeting worldwide Minecraft personalities and commemorative merchandise.

Attendees received an exclusive MINECON 2011 cape, which depicts a creeper.

2012[]

MINECON 2012 was held in Disneyland Paris from November 24–25. The convention was attended by 4,500 people – approximately the same amount as the previous year.[4] Tickets went on sale on September 14, 2012.

Attendees received an exclusive MINECON 2012 cape, which depicts a pickaxe.

At MINECON 2012, the Redstone Update was announced and some of its features were showcased.

2013[]

MINECON 2013 was held in Orlando, Florida, USA from November 2–3.

Mojang Studios revealed on June 27 that MINECON 2013 would be held in Orlando, Florida from November 2–3.[5] After a lot of mystery, it was officially confirmed by Mojang Studios that MINECON 2013 would be hosted in the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC).[6]

Early on July 31, Mojang Studios confirmed that tickets would start going on sale later that day. These tickets were said to be released in batches of 3,[7] each of those batches selling 2,500 tickets and at $150 a piece (7,500 tickets in total).

On September 5, Mojang Studios posted that attendees of MINECON would receive an exclusive MINECON 2013 cape, which depicts a piston.[8]

2015[]

MINECON 2015 was held at ExCeL London, London, UK from July 4–5.[9]

On March 30, 2014, it had originally been announced that the next MINECON would take place somewhere in Europe. It was later confirmed that MINECON was unable to be held in 2014, instead it had to be moved to Spring 2015, and was held in London.[10]

On March 18, 2015, Mojang Studios announced that tickets would be on sale on Friday March 27th and Saturday March 28th, respectively.[11] The tickets were released in two batches[12].

Attendants of MINECON 2015 were given a MINECON 2015 cape, which depicts an iron golem.

At MINECON 2015, some of the features of the Combat Update were announced and showcased.

2016[]

MINECON 2016 was held in Anaheim, California, USA from September 24–25.

On March 7, MINECON 2016 was announced.[13]

On April 18, Mojang Studios announced that tickets would be on sale on Friday May 6th and Saturday May 7th, respectively.[14]

Attendees of MINECON 2016 got an exclusive MINECON cape, which depicts an enderman.

At MINECON 2016, the Exploration Update was announced and some of its features were showcased.

MINECON Earth[]

MINECON Earth 2017 was an online livestream held at the official MINECON website on November 18.

On August 8, 2017, Mojang Studios announced that MINECON would be taking the form of an interactive 90-minute livestream on November 18, dubbed MINECON Earth.[15] Tickets were free to the event, and attendees were able to purchase MINECON-branded merchandise online to be delivered to their place of residence.

After this announcement came the introduction of "Official Community Events", which allow events such as Minefaire, Minevention and Multiplay's BlockFest to be considered "Official Minecraft Conventions".

At MINECON Earth 2017, Update Aquatic was announced and some of its features were showcased.

The Phantom won the community mob vote and was added in Update Aquatic.

2018[]

MINECON Earth 2018 was an online livestream held at the official MINECON website on September 29.

On April 10, 2018, it was announced that MINECON Earth 2018 would take place on September 29, 2018.[16]

At MINECON Earth 2018, Village & Pillage was announced and some of its features were showcased.

The Taiga biome won the community biome vote, and its features were added along with Village & Pillage.

MINECON Live 2019 was an online livestream held at the official MINECON website, YouTube, Twitch and Mixer on September 28, at 4 pm UTC.

On May 17, 2019, it was announced that MINECON Live 2019 would take place on September 28, 2019.[17]

The MINECON Live 2019 Founder's Cape (a yellow version of the 2011 cape) was available for free for a limited time on the Minecraft Marketplace, as a promotion for the character creator on Bedrock Edition.

At MINECON Live 2019, the Nether Update was announced and some of its features were showcased.

The Mountains biome won the community biome vote, and its features were added in the Caves and Cliffs update.[18]

Minecraft Live 2020 was an online livestream held at the official Minecraft Live web page, YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook on October 3, 2020 at 4 pm UTC.

At Minecraft Live 2020, the Caves & Cliffs update was announced and some of its features were showcased.

The Glow Squid won the mob vote and was added into Minecraft in the Caves & Cliffs: Part I update.[19]

2021[]

Minecraft Live 2021 was an online livestream that went live on October 16, 2021 at 4 pm UTC.

At Minecraft Live 2021, the Wild Update was announced and some of its features were showcased.[20]

The Allay won the mob vote and was added into Minecraft in the Wild Update.

Minecraft Live 2022 was an online livestream that went live on October 15, 2022.

At Minecraft Live 2022, the Trails & Tales update was announced and some of its features were showcased.

The Sniffer won the mob vote and was added as part of the Trails & Tales update.

Minecraft Live 2023 will be an online livestream that will happen on October 15, 2022.

At Minecraft Live 2023, the next major update will be announced.

There will also be a mob vote.
