Gold is primarily used to craft clocks, powered rails and usually for a decorative block or for equipment such as tools and armor.
Tools made with gold will mine much faster than those of diamond; however, because of gold's extremely low durability, it is typically impractical for usage in equipment, and is more often used for "showing off" rather than for its value as items/armor. Gold tools can only mine stone, cobblestone, coal and slabs; but they dig the fastest out of all the tools, and as such may be useful if the player is in a hurry and has plenty of gold. Gold equipment also has the highest enchantability of any material in the game. One gold ingot weights about 21,47 kg.
Obtained: smelting of Gold Ore, crafted from gold block or from gold nuggets, and sometimes dropped by Zombie Pigmen.
Creates: sword, armor, tool, gold block, clock, gold nugget, powered rail.
Gold is a lower-middle-tier armor set. It is not suggested to use it for armor, due to its rarity and rather low durability. Despite its rarity, gold had few uses until the addition of Powered Rails in Beta 1.5, and its value increased even more in Beta 1.6 when powered rails became an important source of power for Minecarts after the Powered Minecart's effectiveness was reduced. It can be made, or found inside chests in strongholds or dungeons

[edit] History
- Before Beta 1.2, gold tools had both low speed and durability. Currently, gold tools have a higher speed than diamond but break about twice as fast as wood tools.
- Gold armor and tools may not be as strong as Diamond, but gold armor and tools are able to receive stronger Enchantments than any other tools or armor.
- Gold ingots are a rare drop from Zombie Pigmen.
