Biography

Daniel Rosenfeld was born on May 9, 1986 in East Germany. At age 5 he wanted to be a stunt car driver. His brother introduced him to creating music with a computer and since then had an interest in music.[4]

Rosenfeld currently lives with his cat, who is well known to make Ghast-like, demonic sounds when disturbed in his sleep.

Music disc developments

Cat

C418 revealed in an AMA on Reddit that the Ghast sounds are taken from his pet cat when he is disturbed while sleeping.[6] He was also going to have his cat voice Ocelots,[7][8] but since his cat never meows clearly,[9][10] C418 decided to use cat sounds from Freesound instead.[11]

Where Are We Now

"Where Are We Now" was intended to be in the game but was left out due to a processing problem. In 1.4.3, the song was renamed to "Wait", fixing the processing problem by removing the spaces, and then released. The name of the disc was not changed in the X-Box 360 Edition when it was released on the console, however.

Trivia

C418's skin
  • As of 1.4.3, 12 musics have been added to Minecraft.
    • These include all of the previously-encoded files, but "Where Are We Now" was renamed to "Wait", due to troubles encountered when adding in music with spaces in the name.
  • In-game music is cued by the time of day, with a random track being played at sunrise, sunset, noon and midnight.
  • Many sounds that C418 has used can be found at freesound.org (for example the walking sounds can be found here.)
  • His Minecraft skin is the default skin, but the head is replaced with the texture for a jukebox.
    • Like Mojang employees, his in-game character can also be seen wearing a Mojang cape.
  • "Chirp" uses the same sound sample as "The Orb of Dreamers" from LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2. The sample apparently comes from Program Disk 70021 "Latin Fever" for the Optigan synthesizer. C418 stated that it was coincidental.[12]
  • The track "Sweden" is a Passacaglia, with a changing melody over a repeated bass line.
